Midwood Hornets Continue Lacrosse Sting

By Liz Graham

While most students were vacationing or relaxing last week, Midwood High's varsity lacrosse team practiced hard every day and had a scrimmage on Wednesday with a team from the East Longmeadow suburb of Boston. The game was very exciting, was tied three different times, and went into overtime before the Hornets won, 9-8.

Rob McCabe scored 6 goals with 1 assist, while Jeremy Ehresman and Matt Michaels both had a few assists in the win. As usual, Evan Hamburger and Lukasz Boruch were ruthless on defense. During the second half, Danny Kelley and Tim Halligan got lots of playing time at midifeld and attack. Coach Murphy gave all the guys time on the field in the second half in the true spirit of scrimmage.

Tuesday's game against Curtis was forfeited by Curtis, giving the Hornets their current 9-0 record.Games this week are Thursday and Friday, home against New Dorp and away against Port Richmond (in a makeup for the snow day), respectively. Next week there are three games, so there will continue to be plenty to report. Go Hornets!

By the way, Hornets Junior Varsity shows plenty of promise and has some more of our Rockaway boys, like Joey Bovasso, Mike Reen and Dylan Sigiovanni. Keep the tradition going! Sting 'Em!
