innings. St. Francis Prep put away the contest with an eight run third inning.

Nicole Diehm, Nicole Bifulco and Krystal Hoffman put together three straight hits which upped the Terriers lead to 8-0 in the third inning.

Head coach Jim DeAngelo can only shake his head as the Lady Flippers were mercied for the first time this season. Luckily for Stella Maris, softball is unlike football, where instead of playing once a week, they could play another game two days later against St. John's Prep and try to get over their huge loss.

Caitlin Garofalo got the nod on the mound and was outstanding in pitching five no hit innings and inspired Stella Maris to a 12-1 win.

"She was throwing awesome. She had good command of the ball," DeAngelo said.

For the Flippers to have a chance to make the CHSSA Brooklyn/Queens championship, they must defeat the upper echelon teams. Today at 3:45 p.m. at Fort Tilden, Molloy is one of those challengers at the top of the division who Stella Maris have lost twice to this season.

High School News

The Beach Channel softball team finally tasted the fruits of victory for the first time this season in a 10-8 win over Richmond Hill in a rematch of the PSAL B Championship last June.

The circumstances were different on that warm day at the College of Staten Island. The Dolphins lost 5-2 in the championship game against the Lady Lions but the 2006 campaign hasn't gone well for both squads.

An 0-4 start dampened the spirits of the Dolphins but found a way to make a comeback in the late innings at Richmond Hill.

Trailing 7-3 and 8-7 in the sixth innings, the Dolphins put up three runs in the last two innings to eke out their first win of the year, a 10-8 decision at Richmond Hill (2-5).

Samantha Lebron won the first game on the mound for Beach Channel (1-4) and knocked in 3 RBI on the day.

The winning bug has taken over the Lady Dolphins Tennis team. They improved their record to 10-0 overall and first place in PSAL Queens B II as all five players, including Tiffani Parchment and Seneca Nelson won their matches. The PSAL tennis playoffs start on May 5.
