Maria Crespo Longtime Rockaway Resident

Maria Crespo, a Rockaway Beach resident for 53 years, died at Peninsula Hospital Center on April 3. Crespo, who was raised in Puerto Rico, taught Confraternity of Christian Doctrine (CCD) classes. She was known as "Yia" or "Abuelita."

Crespo is survived by her children, Carmen, Lucy, Angelo, Ismeal and Freddie; 13 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; and nine great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral arrangements were entrusted to the Lawrence Funeral Chapel. A service was held on April 6. Interment was at St. Charles Cemetery.

Mary Sevick D'Anna

Seamstress

Mary Sevick D'Anna, a former Rockaway Beach resident, died April 20 at Long Beach Medical Center. She was 95.

D'Anna, a seamstress in the Ladies Garments Worker's Union, was born in Czechoslovakia. She moved to the U.S. with her family at the age of nine, and lived for many years in Rockaway Beach before moving to Oceanside. Her husband and his brother and sister operated Danna Fuel Oil Co., which was located in Inwood.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Dominick; son, Peter; and brother, John Sevick.

D'Anna is survived by her son, Salvatore (Jane) of Oceanside; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Funeral arrangements were entrusted to the Meserole Funeral Home, Inc. in Inwood. A Funeral Mass was celebrated at St. Rose of Lima Church. Interment was at St. Mary's Roman Catholic Cemetery in North Lawrence, Long Island.

Timothy F. Dobbins

Teacher

Timothy F. Dobbins, a Rockaway resident for two years coming from Maspeth, died April 26.

Dobbins, a retired high school teacher for the NYC Board of Education, was born in Manhattan.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Pennella Dobbins.

Dobbins is survived by his brother, William Dobbins; sister, Mary Johnson; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral arrangements were entrusted to the Denis S. O'Connor Funeral Home. Visitation will be held on Friday, April 28 from 2-5 p.m. and 7-10 p.m. at the Denis S. O'Connor Funeral Home. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, April 29 at 9:45 a.m. at St. Rose of Lima Church. Interment will be held at St. Charles Cemetery in Farmingdale, New York.

Dorothy Gibbons

Homemaker

Dorothy Gibbons, a Rockaway resident for 10 years coming from the Bronx, died April 26.

Gibbons, a homemaker, was born in Schenectady, New York.

She is survived by her husband, Francis J. Gibbons; son, Edward Gibbons; daughter, Janet Rose Gibbons; and grandchildren, Zachary and Taylor Gibbons.

Funeral arrangements were entrusted to the Denis S. O'Connor Funeral Home. Visitation will be held on Friday, April 28 from 2-5 p.m. and 7-10 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, April 29 at 9:30 a.m. at St. Francis de Sales Church. Interment will be held at St. Charles Cemetery in Farmingdale, Long Island.

Nora T. Keenan

Teacher

Nora T. Keenan (nee McNerney), a Rockaway resident for 16 years coming from Brooklyn, died April 26.

Born in Brooklyn, Keenan was a former teacher for the NYC Board of Education and Catholic School System, who taught at St. Francis de Sales School in Belle Harbor.

Keenan was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas J.; brother, Frank McNerney; and sister, Gloria McNerney.

She is survived by her sons, Thomas, Joseph, Brian, John, Daniel, Patrick and James; daughter, Nora McCann; grandchildren, Elizabeth, Madeline, Thomas, Maura, Patricia, Joseph, Erin, Catherine, Brian, Elizabeth, Matthew, Angela, Daniel, David, Julia, Tara, Caroline, Jennifer, Kristen, Patrick and John; brothers, Andrew and Gerald McNerney; and sisters, Anna Windels, Marion Murray and Kathleen Coady.

Funeral arrangements were entrusted to the Denis S. O'Connor Funeral Home. Visitation will be held on Friday, April 28 from 2-5 p.m. and 7-10 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, April 29 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Francis de Sales Church. Interment will be held at St. John's Cemetery in Middle Village.
