Local Accepts Global Education Seat At The UN
Eileen King-Venezia, a longtime resident of the Rockaways, as well as an educator and administrator of District 27, has accepted an invitation to sit on the United Nations committee of Global Educators. King-Venezia is the only NYC Department of Education member to receive such an invitation.
King-Venezia's responsibilities will include assisting in the development of the UN's yearly educational conference, along with providing educators with available resources and arranging for member delegates to be part of an outreach program in education. Her collaboration with the UN began in 1999. In 2002, she was part of the UN's forum on Literacy in Times of Distress, where she presented and discussed the writings and reflections of the children from PS 114 following the events of 9/11. King-Venezia served as Assistant Principal in both PS 114 and PS 197, when in 2004 she was granted a transfer to another district following a sabbatical.
King-Venezia is a graduate of Far Rockaway High School, class of 1974. She attended Brooklyn College and then Columbia University for postgraduate work; and also received a Professional diploma in Administration from Queens College. She is the mother of four children ages 12 to 20.
