Trinity Services Luncheon Set For June 1

On Thursday, June 1, Chapey's Trinity Services will have its 4th annual luncheon at Russo's on the Bay in Howard Beach.

Chapey's Trinity Services is a comprehensive, community-based program designed to assist both youngsters and seniors in Southern Queens.

The van program transports groups of seniors on shopping trips. The van also takes them to educational, historical, recreational, ethnic and cultural happenings. It gives people an opportunity to socialize with their peers, to engage in a variety of activities and to participate in numerous events.

In the after-school program seniors work with youngsters to provide academic intervention, homework assistance, computer instruction and athletic activities. In addition, high school seniors teach seniors computer skills.

We also sponsor intergenerational trips where youngsters and seniors have an opportunity to visit places of interest and to share their experiences.

Groups of seniors take the van to shop, to restaurants, to museums, to movies, to historical sites, to theaters and to dinner shows. In addition, there are numerous other educational and recreational activities that seniors participate in using the van. The van travels around New York City, Westchester, Nassau, Suffolk and the central and northern parts of New Jersey. The van provides transportation for seniors in groups of 10 to 14 persons and is equipped with a motorized wheel chair lift.

Those who are interested in utilizing the van should call Geraldine or Stella at (718) 474-1641. Those who have a specific destination in mind can call and we will get you all the information you need.

Last week, for example, the van went to the orchid exhibit in Rockefeller Center. I understand that it was a thrilling trip, featuring a dazzling display of orchids. The trip was made more appealing because the participants traveled into Manhattan and back to Rockaway on the van. The van provides a safe and secure environment. We put real meaning into the slogan of "leave the driving to us". As you are no doubt aware, the costs of running a van are increasing. Gasoline prices are going up two and three times a day. Therefore, we need to raise funds in order to continue to provide these vital and important services. The annual luncheon is one way we achieve fundraising success.

Frances Abbracciamento and Joseph Mure will be our luncheon co-chairs. This year we are delighted that Joseph Perrotta has agreed to join our leadership team. They have been meeting with Frank Russo at Russo's on the Bay to plan another wonderful event.

When Joseph Mure, Frances Abbracciamento and Joseph Perrotta put their head together we can really expect a fantastic happening.

We have a very dedicated and creative luncheon committee. Each person who volunteers his or her time has a passion for our cause. They are combing New York City and the surrounding counties for the best possible raffle prizes. Last week they discovered a beautiful, colorful and modernistic wall hanging. Everyone who sees it wants to win it. We will be entertained this year again by popular demand by Tom Touhey from T Tunes. Tom has a true talent for selecting the greatest music. He has a wonderful combination of traditional music, golden oldies, line dances, country western, and rock music. Tom's talents are in great demand. Everyone loves his music. I am truly delighted that he will be entertaining us.

Please join us on Thursday, June 1, 2006 at 12 Noon at Russo's on the Bay for our luncheon. Please make your reservations early so that you can enjoy the splendid lunch at Russo's and help to raise funds for the van. Please call (718) 474-1641.
