Roger Carreau-'Nature Is My Canvas'
Roger Carreau, a photographer and Rockaway resident for over 50 years, has been a member of the Rockaway Artists Alliance since 2000. His fellow artists in the RAA and his family have been instrumental in his development as an up and coming photographer, an artistic medium he has enjoyed for over 40 years. "Life's long journey, through trial and error, has contributed to my educational background," he says. Whether it was drawing, coloring books and crayons, colored pencils and numbered pictures, writing, math, music, and culture, they have all contributed to Carreau's art.
Carreau draws inspiration from the surrounding beachscapes and other scenery characteristic of the Rockaways. "The beauty that surrounds us all is sometimes taken for granted. Nature is my canvas and my ultimate goal is to capture a moment in time with my third eye; as the seasons of our daily lives become more precious and meaningful," he says.
Carreau's first show on the Rockaway peninsula, "Pipe Dreams," will take place at Gallery 6 in Fort Tilden on May 6, May 7, May 13, May 14, May 20 and May 21; with an opening reception on Sunday, May 7 from 1-3 p.m.
