Those Were The Diner Days My Friend

Now that the Rockaway Sunset Diner is gone forever, Rockaway is diner-less for the first time in perhaps 30 years. Before the diner at Beach 116 Street, however, there was the State Diner in Far Rockaway during beginning in the 1940's and remaining at that site until the early 1960's. The diner stood where McDonald's now stands, at the corner of Beach Channel Drive and Mott Avenue. It was a hangout for Far Rockaway High School students for the many years it was in operation and many a weekend day began with breakfast at that location. The Wave is asking for remembrances of the State Diner. Contact the paper at 718-634-4000 or by Email at editor@rockawave.com.
