MTA Repeals Administrative Fee
Assemblywoman Audrey I. Pheffer reports that during the 2006-2007 budget negotiations, the Legislature was able to offer a proposal to eliminate the $1.00 administrative fee recently introduced by the MTA.
"After the introduction of this new fee, I was contacted by numerous constituents who were outraged at this new charge. Being a commuter myself, I also felt the same concerns of these residents and voiced my opposition to the MTA, as well as sponsoring legislation to prohibit such a fee,' said Pheffer.
In addition, many other legislators were contacted by constituents with opposition to this fee.
After not receiving adequate justification for the fee imposition, the Legislature came to agreement during budget negotiations to repeal this charge.
Since New York State law gives the Governor the power to veto such items, Assemblywoman Pheffer recommends that those in support of this repeal contact Governor Pataki at 518-474-8390 urging him to enact the legislation.
