DEA Agent Injured In Hit And Run, Two Locals Arrested
While details are still sketchy at press time, a Drug Enforcement Administration agent who reportedly lives in Rockaway was hit and injured in Bayswater on Wednesday evening when a maroon Buick Sports Utility Vehicle struck him and fled the scene, police say.
On Thursday afternoon, officers from the 101 Precinct in Far Rockaway executed a warrant at 29-17 Bessamund Avenue in Far Rockaway, taking a man and women into custody in relation to the hit and run.
The man was identified by police as Larry Shaw, 40, of the same address. The woman was identified as Danielle Jawrell.
Shaw was being charged with vehicular assault and leaving the scene of an accident. Jawrell was charged with obstructing governmental administration.
The DEA agent, who reportedly lives in the Bayswater area and is not being identified by police due to the nature of his work, was hit at Hartman Lane and Bessamund Avenue.
Aviation, K-9 and emergency service units were called in and a Level I Mobilization was called, bringing in police officers from all over the borough.
The maroon Buick SUV was reportedly found in front of the Bessamund Avenue location. and a warrant was signed allowing police to enter and search the residence as well as two automobiles parked in front of the home.
Police officials declined to speculate about whether the person who hit the DEA agent knew that he was an agent or whether it was purely an accident.
