PS/MS 42 held their first annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Oratorical Contest on Friday, February 17 as part of the school's celebration of African American History Month. All students, from pre-kindergarten through seventh grade, were invited to participate in the competition.

Students were scored in four different categories (memorization, projection, enunciation and style) and the top performers from each grade were invited to participate in the finals on Friday, March 3.

The contest was a great success and the result of hard work from students, their families, volunteer parents, and faculty.

The school winners were Madhurie Parasram, Shakara Israel, Jonde Brusch and Rachel Estime.
