School Burglar Steals Loot And No. 2's
A man was arrested March 22 inside the dean's office of a private school in Far Rockaway, where police say he destroyed furniture and stole cash - and pencils.
Police were called to Bnos Bias Yaakov, located at 613 Beach 9 Street, at about 8 a.m. after the dean of the school went to his office, found book cases knocked over and chairs destroyed and called 911.
Police arrested Duke Anderson, 38, who was in the dean's office bathroom with money and pencils from inside the dean's desk, which had been locked, stuffed into his pockets, according to a law enforcement source.
Anderson, whose address was not known at press time, tried to escape and suffered injuries that required hospitalization. He remained in the hospital this week and his arraignment in Queens Criminal Court was pending.
Police said he will be charged with burglary, criminal mischief, petit larceny, resisting arrest and trespassing. He faces up to seven years in prison if convicted, according to a spokes woman for Queens District Attorney Richard A. Brown.
