West End Temple Sponsors Trip To Capitol
West End Temple in Neponsit will be lending its support to the worldwide effort to stop the genocide in Darfur, Sudan. As many as 400,000 have been killed at the hand of government-backed militias, and nearly two million innocent civilians have been displaced from their homes in the Darfur region.
Thousands of people from around the country will gather in Washington, DC for the Save Darfur: Rally to Stop Genocide on Sunday, April 30. The rally will take place at the National Mall and will feature prominent political figures, religious leaders, entertainers, journalists and others who support a strong multinational force to protect the citizens of Darfur. The rally is being sponsored by 155 faith-based and human rights organizations.
The rally is also the final stop of "Tour for Darfur: Eyewitness to Genocide," a 21,000 mile photo exhibit and speaking tour of 22 cities in 11 states to raise public awareness about the Darfur crisis.
In addition to the rally, Sybil Kessler, Director of United Nations Affairs for B'nai B'rith International will speak at West End Temple about the crisis in Darfur at Friday evening's Shabbat services on April 21 at 8:15 pm.
West End Temple invites concerned citizens and neighbors to join in the rally. Reserve your seat on the West End Temple bus, which will leave from 147-02 Newport Avenue at 7:30 a.m. on Sunday, April 30, and will return between 9:00 p.m. and 10:00 p.m. that evening.
