World Champions Karate Center : A Focus On Education As Well As Training

The World Champions Karate Center at 112-20 Beach Channel Drive in Rockaway Park has a view of martial arts training not shared by many other dojos. Sensei Bruce Hodes says that he wants to educate his students for life, to watch them grow and learn as well as to train them in the disciplines necessary to rise in the Karate ranks.

These students also participate in tournaments hosted by the Amateur Athletic Union (AAU).Older students, many of whom have achieved the status of black belt, continue to train and teach at the Beach 112 Street dojo. The heart of the program is the youngsters who begin the long road to becoming a black belt. These children, aged six to teen, took part in a recent graduation ceremony. Many of the students begin at the dojo at age four, even before they enter school. A half-hour special session is scheduled for these students on Saturday mornings. The heart of the program is the youngsters who begin the long road to becoming a black belt.
