Midwood H.S. Lacrosse Features Rockaway Locals
Midwood High School's varsity lacrosse team emerged victorious Tuesday after a hard fought game with Staten Island's Tottenville Pirates. Many locals help to form the backbone of the team: Jeremy Ehresman, a senior attackman, is lightning fast and as tenacious as a bulldog. He scored one of the Hornets' goals in their 9-5 win. Evan Hamburger, also a senior, led the defense and stopped many a shot. Rob McCabe, a junior attackman in his 3 rd year on varsity, scored a hat trick as he baffled the Pirates with his quick foot-and-stick work. Other locals on the team are Matt Michaels, Lukosz Boruch, Randy Moses, Danny Kelley and Tim Halligan.
The first quarter looked promising as Midwood ran up a 4-1 lead, but Tottenville quickly evened the score to a 4-4 tie at the half. By the end of the third, the score was tied again at 5-5, but Midwood blazed back in the final quarter, scoring three goals and keeping the Pirates from scoring again. Many Rockaway parents and siblings cheered on the steadfast Hornets during the exciting but grueling two hour match.
The season has just started, but the Hornets are hoping to sting the competition often as possible from now until May. Check the schedule, roster, and stats at: http://www.psal.org and watch for reports on the Hornets here in The Wave !
