Shooting Victim 'Uncooperative,' Police Say

An Ocean Village man told police he was shot last Thursday night in the hallway of his apartment building as he was taking out the trash, police said.

Shaking Saunders, 28, said he was approached by an unknown assailant, who demanded his jewelry and then opened fire, according to police. Saunders, of 57-07 Shore Front Parkway, was struck once in his left thigh.

Saunders brought himself to Peninsula Hospital's emergency room, where staff workers notified police. Officers interviewed Saunders, who could not provide a description of his attacker.

Police canvassed the Ocean Village complex and searched the hallway for ballistic evidence, but their search turned up no leads.

Saunders also "gave no details," and was uncooperative with the investigation, according to a police source. A records check revealed that Saunders had an outstanding warrant and he was placed under arrest.
