McKinley Hightower-Beyah, executive director of the Hamer-Campos Farmer's Market in Arverne, presented two gardening workshops for the NYC Parks 22nd Annual Greenthumb Grow Together on Saturday, March 18. Over 600 Greenthumb Garden groups gathered at Hostos College in the Bronx. Hightower-Beyah's presentations, "When Global Warming Changes the Season Patterns and Innovative Value-Added Production" and "Planning Your Garden to Enhance Community Food Security," were featured at the conference, which included other workshop sessions, exhibits and networking.

Hightower-Beyah will be doing a "Garden Planning" workshop at the Wyckoff Farm Museum, a farm that has been in the same location in Brooklyn since 1652, on Sunday, April 30.

Dear Howard:
I wish to say "THANK YOU" for putting the information concerning my workshops in the "WAVE". This is the season for starting that garden. There are some wonderful gardens and Gardeners in the Rockaways. I am glad to see our local officials are such advocates of "Open Green Space" and it's relationship to Good Nutrition. I meet Growers from Floyd Bennett Field, Fort Tilden, Backyard Gardeners, and local Community Gardeners. I do so remember "Mario", and his Johnny Appleseed attitude about Gardening in the Rockaways. We are working hard to get and keep the Youth envolved in "Urban-Agriculture". It is comforting to know that we have a friend at and of the "Wave".
Sincerely,
McKinley
