Sorrentino Queens Champs Advance To 1 on 1 Title Game
The Sorrentino Recreational Center are proud to announce that six boys and girls were Queens champions in the Who's the Man/Can She Hang One on One Citywide Basketball Tournament held at Lost Battalion Hall on March 11 and 12.
The winners will compete for the overall city champions in each age category from 9 to 13 years old. The championship will be held at Cromwell Recreational Center in Staten Island at 12 p.m.
Games are played to 11 points or 7 minute time limit. Each shot is worth 1 point unless beyond the two point line. Ball Alternates after each basket and there is no hand checking.
Here are the boys and girls winners in each category: 9 year old girls- Brianna Neblett. 10 years old boys- Christopher Davis Jr. 11 years old girls- Jasmine Nwajei. 11 years old boys- Isaiah McFadden. 13 year old girls- Eva Nwajei. 13 year old boys- Marlon Johnson.
Pepper Steppers Return
The world champion Stan Pepper Steppers will once again return to the ropes to compete in the American Double Dutch League Annual City/ State Championships to be held at Kennedy Park in Hempstead, Long Island. The event will be held on Saturday, April 29 at 10 a.m. which will be hosted by the Salvation Army.
The teams will compete in singles and doubles for grades 3 to high school. The winners will advance to represent New York in the upcoming World Invitational Championships to held on June 15-17 in Sumpter, South Carolina.
The Sorrentino Center soccer teams, who are playing in the 13 and under division, continue to be in first place, second place, and tied for third. The play-offs will start March 27 at 5 p.m. and the championship game held on April 3 at 5:00pm.
