Parks Department Puts Out Call For Lifeguards

Leroy Temple, who manages Rockaway's parks for the New York City Department of Parks & Recreation, announced at CB 14's March meeting that the city is looking to hire lifeguards for the summer. "Currently, in the Region 5 [school] area, we have 16 young adults participating in the program that we hope to have here in Rockaway," said Temple. "If they are here in Rockaway taking this test, we're going to be keeping them here in Rockaway." Training would be at Far Rockaway High School and John Adams High School. Candidates must be at least 16 years old. Salaries are $10.71, $12.24 and $13.86 for first, second and third year guards respectively. Qualifying exams will be held the first week of April.
