Blum To Be Honored By Brooklyn Jesuit Prep
Rockaway's own William J. "Bill" Blum will be honored at Brooklyn Jesuit Prep's first benefit dinner on April 5 at Gargiulo's Restaurant in Coney Island. Blum will be awarded the Heroic Leadership Award for his role in establishing and building the Brooklyn school. Blum is a member of the New York Stock Exchange and a lifelong Belle Harbor resident.
Since 2003, Brooklyn Jesuit Prep has provided a comprehensive middle school education with after-school and summer programs for youth from impoverished, primarily immigrant families in Crown Heights. Blum was a member of Brooklyn Jesuit Prep's founding Board of Directors and has been a strong advocate and generous supporter of the school.
Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz will be on hand to proclaim April 5, 2006 as "BJP Day in Brooklyn," and Jesuit Father Jack Alexander
SJ, President of the Brooklyn Prep
Alumni Association, will present the award to Blum.
Blum is an alumnus of Brooklyn Prep (which closed in 1972) and the College of the Holy Cross. His father, the late William Blum, was a partner in Walter Blum Insurance and active in the Rockaway Rotary and other civic associations. His mother, Anne, resides in Belle Harbor, as do several of his siblings.
