I got an email that is important to everyone in the Channel who owns a car. It is about "... the recent rash of car break-ins.Apparently there have been a large number of cars broken into in the past several weeks. Those responsible are looking for quick cash, cigarettes, CDs and radios. They do blocks at a time.EVERYONE WHOSE CAR HAS BEEN AFFECTED SHOULD- EVEN IF YOU CAN'T FIGURE OUT WHAT IS MISSING - REPORT IT TO THE PRECINT.The only way we can get a squad car to ride around is if everyone reports it."

Homeowners in the Channel should check with Ginger at: vohare@nyc.rr. com or write to Post Office Box 2, Broad Channel 11693 to determine if they are eligible for a refund of $250 due to monies paid by them or the previous homeowner. UCO is facilitating the refunds to the current homeowner through the sewer maintenance account.

The Library is encouraging library patrons 16 years old or younger to read and pay off library fines on their cards. All the young people have to do is go to the library and read for at least half an hour to get Library Bucks worth $1 toward existing fines. If they read for an hour, they earn Bucks worth $2 off their fines.

There are rules to this offer, so check it out with the librarian.

Words of wisdom in an Irish proverb: "Dance as if no one were watching, sing as if no one were listening and live each day as if it were your last."
