Bravest Hoops Burns NYPD in O.T. Thriller

The FDNY Brooklyn Basketball Squad fought valiantly back to erase a late deficit to catch the cops in regulation & pull away in overtime before a packed, raucous St. Francis de Sales Gym in the 5th Annual Classic. Local firefighters rose to the occasion again as Bravest Hoops improved its overall record to 628-2.F.D. coaches Steve Collins & Rockaway's favorite son Kevin "Coach Flathead" Coursey (& Head Trainer FF Pete Brady) worked the sidelines magnificently as their substitution patterns & intimidating ref-baiting kept the cops on their toes. Kevin's intensity was apparent by his many outfit changes throughout the game (each one more impeccable).

Rockaway's greatest Big Man ever battled fatigue and an enormous P.D. frontline to control the boards and police the lane. His understudy Wil "Brock Landers" Downey, Rockaway's loveable, lounging Lifeguard Lt., was not faring as well against the Police behemoths. His time away from hoops working as stunt double on "Boogie Nights II" was sadly evident by his awkward showing. Two headed point guard tandem of Dan Riches & Ryan "The Wave"Whelan tried to replace the sheer intensity of honeymooning starter, Tim Riches. With the expandingDan's sharp shooting &the Masterlock defense ofRyan, the point succeeded and Powder was shut down.

On a high note, injured star, D.J. Krush Groove N. H., did not drop one CD in the humid gym unlike previous years. The squad united and overachieved to punctuate a fantastic evening. Special thanks to referees, Burt & Ken Whelan on an outstanding job, they were both immediately given lifetime ref contracts post game by F.D. Officials. Burt must have saw The Daily News " Mighty Quinn's" gameday article'supset prediction favoring the cops (-10) and went hard the other way with the over on a reverse.

EXTRA TIDBITS :The jubilant post game victory celebration @ the Harbor Light was successfully hosted by America's Happiest Newlywed, Sean Heeran. The NYPD coach must have remembered getting torched by popular Rockaway icon "Shevy" regularly in the legendary Coors Light League. He was attempting to get Cliff away from the free hotdogs to swish some deep 3pointers to no avail. Congrats to Brooklyn Hoops charter member, Jack "Arnold" Bradley and his exquisite wife Janine, on the birth of first child, daughter Cate.Rockaway Rugby legend John "Oakie" O'Connor was working the sidelines drumming up interest for the upcoming FD/PD Rugby match. (Another F.D. Victory!)

Congrats to Oakie on being accepted to the renowned Brooklyn College Medical School, starting after the Captain's Test in June. Good to see Batt. 58's Fastest ECC, Mike O'S @ the game carefully cradling his newborn son. Speaking of bad eggs, noticeably absent this year was ex-team supporter Ed Tolan. The perfectly manicured Seany Carlton told this reporter; Ed joined a holistic yoga camp in India searching for that elusive Fountain of Youth. Good Luck in capturing your "Golden Goose".The charismatic manager of Jameson's Pub, Marty McManus was MIA and unable to work the crowd with many tales of yesteryear. Until next time, BOTTOMS UP & CALM UP!
