Wounded Warriors Host Ski Weekend For Vets At Windham
|Rockaway was well represented at this year’s Wounded Warrior Weekend at Windham Mountain. This was the second year that young, severely injured soldiers were flown from Walter Reed Army Medical Center to Albany Airport, where they were greeted by almost 40 New York City firefighters, many from Rockaway, who would be their escorts, hosts and instructors for three days of adaptive skiing. Among Rockaway’s Bravest were Captain George Johnson; Chief Cook Dennis Barnes; Rockaway Irish Boys, FF Mikey Egan, FF Tommy Murphy, and FF Jimmy Bulloch; FF Eric Heym and FF Charles Heym; FF Ryan Fonteria; and Dave “You Light ‘Em We Fight ‘Em” Riley. Eileen Bellew, widow of FF John Bellew, and her four children were special guests of honor for the weekend. Pictured are all the Wounded Warriors who participated in the ski weekend.
