Black History Celebrations

Bernard White, a celebrated journalist and award-winning program director of WBAI-FM Pacifica, will be the guest speaker for the Far Rockaway Church of Christ annual Black History Month celebration. The program is scheduled for Saturday, February 25 starting at 1 p.m. at 21-25 Nameoke Avenue in Far Rockaway.

Minister Cornelius Heyward commented, “We are looking forward to this year’s celebration with great anticipation and we are pleased that Bernard White will be our guest speaker.” This year’s events will focus on the younger generations: past, present and future; White’s theme will be “The Struggle Continues- A Message For Our Youth.”

The Far Rockaway Church of Christ Steppers will also make an appearance. Their sharp precision and entertaining stepping routines won first place in 2005 in the tri-state Churches of Christ Steppers Competition. There will also be the debut of “Testimony,” Far Rockaway Church of Christ’s newly formed vocal ensemble. Other features include poetry, dramatic presentations, vocal solos, duets and more.

This annual community event is free and the public is invited. For more information call (718) 337-5102.
