SA Piano Lab ‘Music To Their Ears’

The Region Five Scholars’ Academy, located at Middle School 180 in Rockaway Park, has announced the opening of its very own Piano Lab!
The teacher in charge of this new addition to the prestigious school is its very own music teacher, George Maniere.
Not only has Maniere been taking classes into the lab for instruction, he has created an amazing new way to encourage children to play the piano. First, every single student in our school was taught how to read music already. Since every flower blooms at a unique time, and since we are all at different levels, Maniere has organized the music from simplest to most difficult, in color-coded folders!
The colors are (from simplest to most difficult): Blue, Purple (Equivalent to the Blue, but for left-handed children), Yellow, Crème, Green, and Red. This motivates the students to practice finger work, as well as the task of memorizing the music, in order to move forward to the next level. We are all very grateful to Mr. Maniere as well as our principal, Mr. Brian O’Connell, for making the piano lab possible. Who knows? Scholars’ Academy may be grooming the next Chopin!
