Manhattan Cable Airs Fiji Show

The Dorothy Dunne show, “Travels in Style to Fiji” is being aired three times on Manhattan Cable on Saturday night on Channel 57, Feb. 25, 2006 at 7 p.m.; Sunday, March 5 on Channel 56; and on Thursday, March 9 on Channel 57. Hope you enjoy it and I welcome your comments.

The Toy Show is in town and I had a few I put on TV: Sassafas has overnight vibrant-colored bags with legs for walking to Grandma’s House. Put your child’s picture on their meal plate; it is machine washable and microwaveable, non-toxic and non-breakable and it is put out by Make A Plate, Makeit Products, Inc. Your little ones can hear and see and examine their own bugs they catch or buy with Big Bad Booming Bugs. You can hear real bug sounds. Their outreach and educational programs, and Good to Grow provide information about toys for children with special needs.

FAO Schwarz held a big Gala and Auction for ASTRA members of the Toy industry on “Blizzard Sunday.” Their outreach and educational programs feature toys for children with special needs. The store was jammed with people that dined on food and drinks on every floor. The city did a great job in clearing the roads for the cars and taxis and buses, so all the guests and I could have a fun time for charity.

The Orient Express Hotels was at the Essex House, where I got to meet again the representatives for the Westcliff Hotel in Johannesburg and Mt. Nelson in Cape Town, South Africa, which are so, so glorious. Five star luxury hotels with superb service at your fingertips, great food and tours and safaris. I should play my Africa/ Orient Express Hotels shows on Manhattan Cable another time. If some of you may be thinking of Africa as a destination, you will find no better way to experience it than to stay at the Orient Express Hotels.

Later that night I hopped over to Butterfield 8 at 8 East 38 Street for its tasting night opening party. It was marvelous; the whole menu was so flavorful: Spinach Dip, Shrimp Lejoin, Seared Abi Tuna. Butterfield 8 creamy cheese sauce, jalapenos and bacon and Cookie Smash, just to name a few of the tasting. The drinks were generous and of high quality. When I met the master chef, Mas Jones, I invited him to be my guest on WNYX TV. Competition is so great in NYC, but the food can be so so. Delicious Butterfield 8 is bound to be a big success.

I think it’s a great idea to have a food and wine tasting in Breezy Point. The Kennedy’s Corner bachelors will go for that in a big way. The Italian Trade Commission and the Italian Food and Wine Institute hosted a wonderful food and wine gala at the Marriott Marquis, where I tasted the most fabulous Tuscan wines of Italy and learned 1998 was the peak season for wine. And they saved the top wines for last. Hearty meals with full-blown red wines; hard cheese and breads and beef go best. Very informative. A very delicious rib eye, veggies and fruit pie a la mode was presented for lunch. It did me in for the day. I met Philip Di Belardino, representative of Branfi, and I invited him on WNYX TV to share with us his knowledge of the best wines.

Sorry, Kennedy’s is closed from February 25 to March 4. This would have been a great time to watch my Fiji show on Channel 57 at 7 p.m. However, Kennedy’s will re-open on March 5, so you can see my show on Channel 56 at 10 p.m. that night. If that is too late for you than it’s on Thursday, March 9 on Channel 57 at 4 p.m.

Ann Heslin just returned from a beautiful vacation visiting her daughters and sons in law, Megan and Frank Sieista and Helene and Kevin Hyland in Sarasota, Florida. She met Terry and Bernie Sherry from Mineola and Marguerite of Breezy Point.

Call Stella if you need group transportation to attend events with the Trinity Bus Senior Service.

Father Michael Curran of St. Thomas More Church will conduct classes on Christian Morality during Lent. Guest Speaker during the retreat will be Monsignor Neil Mahoney, from March 21 to 25.

The Belle Harbor and Breezy communities are all saddened that Monsignor Martin Geraghty is being transferred after 18 yrs in the St. Francis de Sales parish. A reception is being held in the St. Francis de Sales gym on March 5. All are welcome.

Travel: Fly Air Jamaica with the kids and they fly FREE. London only $398 R/T Air 3 nights. (four stars) Thistle Lancaster Gate Hotel. Breakfasts, daily travel to April 15 and book by March 24. Costa Cruises Kids sail FREE.
