Duddy Set For St. Patrick’s Card

By Elio Velez

John Duddy is officially set to invade the World’s Most Famous Arena.

The rising Ireland born middleweight contender headlines the “Shamrock Express” event at the Theatre at Madison Square Garden on March 16.

In a press conference held at Jack Dempsey’s Restaurant in Manhattan last Tuesday, the Irish Ropes boxer wants to make a good impression for an expected sold out crowd. He’ll be fighting for the WBC Intercontinental Americas Middleweight Championship against Shelby Pudwill.

What better place than New York at the Theater at Madison Square Garden,” Duddy says. “We’re going to kick off Saint Patrick’s Day weekend and we’re going to kick it off the right way.”

Duddy will be looking to notch his 16th consecutive victory with no losses against a battletested opponent in Pudwill, who is currently at 21-2-1 with 9 KO’s.

Irish Ropes stablemate James Moore looks to increase his record to 5-0 against Jose Felix. Maureen Shea and Irish middleweight champion Matt Macklin will fight also. Tickets are currently available at the Madison Square Box Office or by calling Ticketmaster at 1-212-307-7171.

Rucker Advances In Gloves

Robert “B.J.” Rucker advanced into the next round of the Daily News Golden Gloves without even throwing a punch.

The lightweight novice fighter from the Irish Ropes Boxing Club advanced with into the next round of the amateur competition with a bye at the South Jamaica PAL on February 14.

Once Rucker gets in the ring with an opponent, the 19 year old should provide some stiff competition for his opponent according to Irish Ropes trainer Karl LeShore.

“He’s a very good boxer. He’s quick, got fast and and he’s improved a lot on his boxing skills. Last year he was real green and raw. Now he’s better prepared to step it up.”

The Daily News Golden Gloves will continue tonight at the New South Bronx PAL. Irish Ropes heavyweight novice Vinny Celetano and featherweight Travis Hall will get into the ring tonight starting at 8 p.m.
