John Russo – Retirement As Art

John Russo spent much of his adult life

insuring that his

contracting and real estate businesses

thrived. Then came

retirement and John

says that he found his true calling – art.

Russo, who has

lived in Rockaway for five years, is a full time student at

Kingsborough Community

College in

Brooklyn, where he

has won a number of awards for his

artistic works. He

began painting, he

said, when he and his wife went to an

art show at Fort

Tilden. His wife told him that his doodles

were as good as

some of the art, and a new world opened up. Russo also assists

James Cantirino

in developing sets for many of the

Rockaway Theatre

Company’s shows

at Fort Tilden. Pictured,
