Show A Rockaway Welcome For Irish Rugby Players
This year’s Queens County Rockaway St. Patrick’s Day Parade will host very special guests coming all the way from Limerick City, Ireland that will play rugby against our local outfit, The Rockaway Fisheads.
The Richmond Rugby Club was set to stay at the Belle Harbor Yacht Club for the duration of their stay, but due to unforeseen circumstances, the players are in need of rooming accommodations once again.
Mike Benn, president of the Rockaway St. Patrick’s Day Committee, is imploring the Irish community and residents of the Rockaways to open their homes to our neighbors across the Atlantic for the weekend of the St. Patrick’s Day Parade, which is on Saturday, March 4 this year.
The rugby club consists of more than 44 players; the mayor of Limerick City, Diarmuid Scully, and members of the Limerick City Council will also make the trip with the team.
The Richmond Rugby Club and Fishead match-up will take place the morning of the parade, beginning at 10:30 a.m. The players will be in the Rockaways from Thursday night until Sunday, when they will leave in the morning for a trip to New York City.
The Rockaway Rugby Club has played the FDNY rugby team and other opponents in the past.
