Lady Flippers Continue To Scoop Up Victories
Two more league victories in the CHSAA Division II have placed Stella Maris 8-7 overall and still undefeated in league competition.
Last Saturday’s win at St. Agnes by a score of 61-34 was spearheaded by a balanced offensive attack with 9 Lady Flippers scoring. The team combined for 18 assists as their selfless play continued.
Then this past Wednesday, SM traveled to Brooklyn to take on the St. Saviour Pandas. This game, always very competitive and spirited, ended with the Flippers up 57-49. The game was one of “runs” with each team putting together their own attack and then the other answering. SM got out to a fast start up 8-0. But soon the game was tied as SS answered and the quarter ended 14 all.
At half, SM led 29-21 behind the strong play of senior Cat Rudden. Seven points (including a trey) plus 5 assists and 4 steals set the tone for the upcoming third. The Lady Flipper lead stretched to 18 as the Pandas were held scoreless for near 5 minutes. The fourth started with SM up 41-26.
But the Pandas were not quite down nor out yet. With under 4 minutes to go the lead had been cut to 10. The teams traded baskets for the remainder as SM won by 8. For the game, SM was led by Cat Rudden’s 13 points, 9 assists and 7 steals. Quite a game summary for the Stella Senior.
