SFDS Regular Season Finale On Tap This Weekend
The final weekend of the girls regular season is upon us. Heading into the finale, the Bantams and Pee Wee B’s remain unbeaten.
Meagan Atwood scored 8, while teammates Daisy Trusttum, Shannon Twomey, Caitlin Byrne, Anastasia O’Byrne, and Meghan King all scored as the B’s won easily over Our Lady Queen of Martyrs. Casey Collins tallied 8, Ashley Raaf 6, and Paige Whelan 5 for the Bantams as they beat OLPH 28-19. Deirdre Ray and Kara Ryan sparked the decisive run with their hustle and defense.
The Novices rolled to victory at Our Lady of Grace 38-6 behind the outside shooting of Erin Blum, the inside scoring of Taylor Butigan and the all around play of Lisa Pulkoski. The Rookies fell to Gate of Heaven 30-20. Still it was a good effort by all, particularly Kristin Ferrandino, Allison McGovern, Kathryn Foris, and Danielle Farragher.
The Intermedites fell victim to a shortage of available players. Five was not enough as they lost to St. Margaret 34-12. Molly McNulty scored 7 and Allison Dunn 5 in defeat. The Subnovice B’s also played St. Margaret and were impressive once again. Serena Yanello and Emma Knox controlled the backboards, Kimberly Sluyk keyed the defense, and Cassie Moriarty scored twice. The highlight though was a beautiful pass from Taylor Vegh to set up Kayla Kilgallen for a basket. On the boys side, four weeks remain. Dylan Evans scored 6 to lead a balanced attack as the PeeWee A’s beat St. Helen 20-3. Kevin Kenna and Christian Foti each scored 4 and combined to control the boards. George Foris lit up the scoreboard and played outstanding defense.
The PeeWee B’s faced stronger resistance from OLPH but finally put them away 28-20. Michael Buckley poured in 14 and Owen McVeigh 8. Patryk Grabowski scored 16 for the Intermediates in a 41-31 win over St. Benedict Joseph. The Novices beat St. Virgilius 36-12. The Bantams beat St. Stan 65-27. The Rookies lost to OLPH. Most of the boys travel to Connecticut on Saturday to resume our annual series with South Windsor. St. Francis will host on February 11. Good Luck to the Swim team as they head to Eisenhower Park on Sunday for The Diocesan Championship Meet.
