They’re CERT-ified To Help In Emergencies

The city’s Office of Emergency Management held a disaster simulation and graduation ceremony Wednesday night at the Rockaway Point Volunteer Fire Department stationhouse for about 20 Community Emergency Response Team members from Rockaway Point, Roxbury and Breezy Point. CERT members are trained in basic disaster response skills, such as fire safety, light search and rescue and first aid, so they can assist emergency personnel when needed. They also work to educate their neighbors about emergency preparedness. It really was,” said Cashman, “I even learned stuff, and I’ve been an EMT for 30 years.” John Tyburczy keeps the head of the victim steady as Patty Ray Cashman, Chief of the Rockaway Point Volunteer Fire Department, calls the shots at the mock emergency scene. “I thought [the CERT training] was great.
