Scholars’Academy Visit Nursing Homes

Just prior to the holiday break, the students of the Region Five Scholars’ Academy (at MS 180) visited several nursing homes to spread holiday cheer. Students sang songs, distributed cards and recited their adopted Athenian

Oath. The cards were

handmade by the students and included poetry and illustrations. “It felt so good to make other people happy,” said Iga Cuglewska of class 701, “especially around the holidays.” Some of the residents happily joined in and sang along with the students. “Not only did the students have fun, but they understood that the holidays are truly about giving. We look forward to continuing this Scholars’ Academy tradition next year,” said one of the teachers involved in the project. Pictured, the senior citizens enthusiastically watch the students of the Scholars’ Academy perform classic holiday favorites. Scholars’ Academy students sing with pride! The play list included “Rudolph, the Red Nosed Reindeer,” Winter Wonderland” and “Jingle Bells.”
