RAA Spring Presenters Series Starts

The Rockaway Artists Alliance started its “ART &…The RAA Spring Presenters Series,” which takes place on the second Monday of every month thru June, starting at 7:30 p.m. at the RAA General Meetings, T-149 Building in Fort Tilden.

The RAA series kicked off the series with a voyage into the art and beauty of science as illustrated and explained by Dr. Sean Kelly, Science Department Chairman of Xaverian High School.

Dr. Kelly wove video, cutting edge imaging and concise explanation into a compelling picture, both cosmic and sub-atomic, of the wonders of the natural world around us.

Open to members and non-members alike, the free general meetings have highlighted an impressive roster of presenters, speaking on everything from highly innovative cake decorating to the life balance of the Jamaica Bay ecosystem.

Presenters interpose art with their area of expertise. “Our presentation coordinator, Denis Macrae, has prepared a (very) exciting agenda for our meetings this year,” said RAA president Geoff Rawling.

Upcoming presentations include:

February- Art & Computers (including Photoshop) with Wendy K. Friend.

March- Art & Healing with Dr. Nancy Gahles.

April - Art & Balinese Cremation with Denis Macrae, photographer.

May- Art & Children with Marina Callaghan, RAA Education Coordinator.

June- Art & Murals with Geoff Rawling, multimedia artist.

Also upcoming will be Art & Human Form with Joe Rothenberg, instructional guide for the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
