Weiner Meets With Israeli Consul General

As part on his ongoing dialogue with the Congressional delegation of the tri-state region, Ambassador Arye Mekel, Consul General of Israel, invited Congressman Anthony Weiner to the Israeli Consulate for a briefing of the latest events in Israel.

At the onset of this meeting, Congressman Weiner conveyed his concern regarding the condition of Prime Minister Ariel Sharon and extended his sympathy to the Sharon family, and his wishes for a speedy recovery.

In consideration of Prime Minister Sharon’s illness, Congressman Weiner expressed an interest the in the upcoming elections and the role of Acting Prime Minister Ehud Olmert. Ambassador Mekel elucidated the political developments and relevant changes in the government under this new leadership.

Offering his assistance to create an itinerary in Israel, Ambassador Mekel invited Congressman Weiner to visit the State. Having traveled to Israel on several occasions, the Congressman welcomed this idea of another trip in the near future. Ambassador Mekel thanked the Congressman for his long-standing support.
