From the Desk of Lew M. Simon,
Democratic District Leader, 23 rd A.D. Part B
Happy New Year, 2006. May the New Year bring you joy, good health, prosperity and peace in the world for all.
For the first time we believe that Rockaway is on the map with the MTA. As I mentioned before I have been appointed to the Public Advisory Committee of the Lower Manhattan-Jamaica /JFK Transportation Project. As the process is working, part of the old Rockaway Beach line is included as one of the possible plans. For the first time, local residents would have direct service to Lower Manhattan. This is what this bulldog has been fighting for.
Instead of complaining and bellyaching about the lousy transportation, let your voice be heard. On Thursday January 19 at 7:45 PM the Good Government Regular Democratic Club will host a public hearing so that Chris Bastien, Project Manager, will hear from us on the need for linking Rockaway residents and others in Broad Channel, Howard Beach and Ozone Park with the project for high speed service from JFK to Manhattan.
The MTA needs to hear from you. Speak now or forever hold your peace. This is the chance to improve transportation for us all. Each speaker will be allotted 2 to 3 minutes. Simon Sez “Be there or stop complaining.” We are located at 112-20 Beach Channel Drive. (opposite Waldbaum’s)
I would like to congratulate the newly reelected Board members of Dayton Towers Coop. Each and every incumbent won reelection. If I can be of any help please don’t hesitate to call me.
During the months of October, November and December, I was facing a decision on needing an extended warranty on my car. I shopped around with Toyota and other companies on line. I found a company called Continental Warranty. During my research, I spoke to a Toyota service manager. He stated the company has a great reputation and is dependable and reliable.
I made a friend in Mr. Jason McFarlane of Continental Warranty. When I needed service, this warranty stood up to the test. If you need an extended warranty because your warranty is expiring, or you are buying a new car, call Jason at 888-244-0925 ext.2640 and mention my name. He said that he would be glad to give you a discount. Call me if you have any questions.
We are saddened by the death of Meyer Buchman. Meyer was an outstanding individual. I met Meyer during the late 70’s or early 80’s with his wonderful mother Charlotte. We spent many weekends at the movies. He volunteered to do computer work to assist me.
Meyer was born with muscular dystrophy. Although he was physically handicapped, he was a brilliant, outstanding individual. He obtained a bachelor’s degree in computer science. His mother Charlotte devoted her life and long hours of her time to her son Meyer. She also taught in a number of District 27 schools. I have met many of her former students who have stated that her love and direction made a difference in their lives.
She is an exemplary Jewish mother who lived her life through her son. My heart goes out to Charlotte. Meyer was a mensch and a wonderful person. On Saturday evening we assisted the Beach Channel High School Band and Chorus by selling 50-50 raffles and bringing a donation of $500 from Arverne-by-the-Sea to help the band continue what they do. God bless these children. They are the future.
