Breezy Point Maintenance
Eileen Fox (nee Clark), a Rockaway resident for 50 years, died January 1. She was 53.
Fox, who worked for Breezy Point Cooperative Maintenance, was born in Belle Harbor.
She was preceded in death by her father, John J. Clark.
Fox is survived by her husband, James; sons, Michael and Eric Hildebrand, all of Florida; mother, Anna Clark; sisters, Patricia, Nancy and Regina; John Hildebrand; John Reidy; and many friends.
Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Abbey Affordable Cremation & Funeral Services in Largo, Florida. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
Julia Patricia McCorgray
Safe Deposit Manager
Julia Patricia McCorgray (nee Mittmann), who was born and raised in Rockaway Beach, died January 2. She was 75.
McCorgray, who worked for many years as a safe deposit manager at Merrimack County Savings Bank in Concord, New Hampshire, was born February 2, 1930 in Far Rockaway. During her younger years, she lived in Rockaway Beach, and graduated from Far Rockaway High School; and with her husband, established the McCorgray Roofing Corporation. McCorgray moved to New Hampshire in 1976, eventually settling in Woodcrest Village, New London, New Hampshire.
She was a member of St. John the Evangelist Church, participating in the Community Affairs Committee, and was known as the “White Elephant Lady” at many Christmas Fairs. She was interested in buying and selling antiques, which led her to acquire an auctioneer’s license. McCorgray was also a member of Zonta International in Concord.
McCorgray was preceded in death by her parents, Rudolph and Julia (nee O’Connell) Mittmann; and her husband of 52 years, Jim McCorgray.
She is survived by her sister, Marie Russell (Cliff) of Arverne, New York; her daughters, Laurie McCorgray of Salem, Massachusetts, and Tricia Tilley (John) of New London, NH; granddaughters, Emma and Annie Tilley of New London, NH; sisters-in-law, Margie Lee of Broad Channel and Pat Lombardo of Rockaway Beach; and many relatives and friends.
Funeral arrangements were entrusted to the Chadwick Funeral Home in New London. Visitation was held at the Chadwick Funeral Home. A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, January 6, 10 a.m., at St. John the Evangelist Church in Concord. Interment will be held in West Part Cemetery in New London. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Alzheimer’s Association of Vermont and New Hampshire, 10 Ferry Street, Suite 427B, Concord, NH 03301.
Harvey Louis Pedersen
Harvey Louis Pedersen, a Rockaway resident for more than 30 years, died December 25.
Pedersen, a retired carpenter and member of Local 608, was born in Manhattan. He served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II. Pedersen was also a lifetime member of the Romaine Singer VFW in New Jersey, and the Moose and Eagle Clubs and American Legion in West Palm Beach, Florida.
Pedersen was preceded in death by his wife, Helen Sheridan.
He is survived by his daughter, Barbara Hayes; sons, John and Harvey; grandchildren, Helen Fischer (nee Kelleher), Jane O’Donnell, Elizabeth Boyle (nee Hayes), Barbara Hayes and Michael Bennett; great-grandchildren, Amber Rose and Samantha Autumn Fischer, and Michael David Boyle; brother, William Pedersen; sister, Jane Baldwin; and his companion, Molly Abruzzo.
Funeral arrangements were entrusted to the Denis S. O’Connor Funeral Home. Visitation was held at the Denis S. O’Connor Funeral Home. A funeral Mass was celebrated at St. Rose of Lima Church. Interment was at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Valhalla, New York.
Richard Wright, a longtime Rockaway resident, died January 1. He was 85.
Wright, a driver, was born on July 3, 1920 in Aikens, South Carolina. He came to Rockaway Beach as an infant. Wright served his country in the U.S. Army, 92nd Infantry Division, during World War II. He was a recipient of the Italian Cross of Merit; and was a member of the Buffalo 92nd Infantry Division World War II Association.
Wright was preceded in death by his wife, Thelma; and son, James Edward.
He is survived by his two daughters, Adele Turkevan of Saint Matthews, South Carolina, and Mary L. Tillman of Rockaway Beach; sister, Mary W. Brown of Brooklyn; brother, Orease Wright of Chicago, Illinois; six granddaughters, Janice, Greta, Loretta, Marsheila, April, and Tracy; 13 great-grandchildren; buddies, Ellen, Linzie, and Chino; and many relatives and friends.
Funeral arrangements were entrusted to the Grace Funeral Home in Brooklyn. A service was held at the New Hope Missionary Baptist Church in Rockaway Beach. Interment was at Calverton National Cemetery.
