Rockaway History Series At Ft. Tilden

The National Park Service has announced that Gateway National Recreation Area’s Fort Tilden will once again host its annual Rockaway History Series in February.

The National Park Service presents this series of lectures and presentations on historical topics relating to the Rockaway peninsula and Jamaica Bay. Speakers include park rangers and volunteers. All programs are free, but reservations are required.

This year’s topics will be:

The Triangle Shirtwaist Fire and Its Effects on Parks: Wednesday, February 1 at 7 p.m.

The Boats and Ferries of Jamaica Bay: Wednesday, February 8 at 7 p.m.

The History of Aviation on Jamaica Bay: Wednesday, February 15 at 7 p.m.

The programs will take place at Fort Tilden’s Visitor Contact Station (Building I), and will last approximately an hour. For more information, call (718) 338-3338, extension 224.
