When his tour of duty ended, Shein returned to complete his residency in general surgery at the Jewish Hospital of Brooklyn. Shein is certified by the American Board of Surgery and is a Fellow the American College of Surgeons. He is a general surgeon and in addition, does surgery of the hand. He currently has an active private practice in the Rockaways and in Cedarhurst. “I have enjoyed practicing at Peninsula Hospital Center,” commented Shein, “because of the closer relationships of medical staff, nurses and other employees with patients. The more personal level of attention to patients is remarkable in this era and I have had many appreciative comments.” Shein and his wife, Elaine, have five children and six grandchildren.
