Hayden Runs To Stardom At St. Francis Prep

Local trackstar James Hayden of Belle Harbor continues to impress as he went on to win the Walt Disney World High School Varsity Cross Country Classic in Orlando, Florida on October 8. A senior at St. Francis Prep in Queens, Jim placed first against a field on 179 runners from a dozen different states, with a time of 16 minutes and 35 seconds on the difficult 3.1 mile course. Jim anchored the St. Francis Prep team, which placed a strong seventh in the 90 degree Florida heat and humidity.

Jimmy’s performance in Orlando was followed by a solid fourth finish at the prestigious mayors cup country challenge held October 1 at Van Cortland Park in the Bronx. With Jimmy Hayden leading the way St. Francis Prep placed second in the annual event. A lifeguard on Rockaway beaches in the summer, Jimmy can often be seen running the beaches as he stays in shape for the school year competition. Jim began his running as a young boy competing with his three older brothers in the Rockaway Ocean Run and other local events.

James has won many awards including the two mile city championship (CHSAA) and being named to the second team all-city cross country team (CHSAA). With a 90% academic average, James looks forward to competing at the university level of track after he graduates.
