Crook Snacks On Restaurant’s Register

A crook with a late night hunger for cash broke into a popular Arverne restaurant Wednesday and fixed up a to-go order that included the register, police said.

The money hungry thief entered Goody’s West Indian restaurant through a window on the west side of the building during the wee hours, police said.

A man who lives above the restaurant told police he didn’t notice any damage to the side window when he came home at about 2 a.m. The building was equipped with a security system, however the monitoring company did not respond when the alarm was triggered. Police did not say at what time that occurred.

The burglary wasn’t reported until 9 a.m. Wednesday when owner, Gary Robinson, called police, sources said. Robinson discovered the cash register, which was thought to have contained approximately $200 in cash, was gone. A roll of receipt tape was unwound on the sidewalk directly beneath the window.

Goody’s, which is located at 70-18 Amstel Boulevard, boasts “the best barbecue chicken and ribs.” The menu features curry chicken and goat, stew chicken, oxtail, treats such as homemade macaroni and cheese and an assortment of fried foods. Brian Magoolaghan
