for larger version       Body Found On Breezy Shore
A Breezy Point man made a gruesome discovery Thursday morning along the community’s Jamaica Bay shoreline: a man’s body that apparently washed up during this week’s stormy weather, according to U.S. Park Police sources. The outstretched body, lying halfway between a dune and the bay at Beach 219 Street, was reported to police shortly after 10:30 a.m., sources said. U.S. Park Police detectives and the Medical Examiner’s office were quickly on the scene and remained there into the afternoon. Police described the man as black, 30-40 years old, approximately 6 feet 2 inches tall. Sources said there were no visible signs of trauma. It was unclear exactly how long the man had been dead, but police suggested a few days to a week. “It looks like he was in the water for a while,” a U.S. Park Police source told The Wave. The body was unclothed and its left side was shrouded with sand that could have been windblown or left behind by a receding tide. It typically takes days for the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner to complete autopsies and provide more detailed descriptions of bodies that are found in and around the bay or ocean.
