With a 3-9 record last season, the Dolphins stumbled out of the gate last Monday in a two set loss to Springfield Gardens. But Tiffani Parchment, who returns for her second season, is optimistic that good times might be ahead for the team. “We only had three days of practice because we been doing tryouts for so long cutting people that we didn’t have time to really practice,” Parchment said.
FRHS Volleyball Preview Shantee Goggins, Sandy Jean Francois and Patrice McKenzie are a just a few of the players that keep traveling with head coach Les Sabbah. Through basketball, softball and now volleyball season, Sabbah knows what skills and abilities his team will have. “We’re a little better than last year. We got 8 new players such as Fayon Malcolm and Lashana Johnson,” Sabbah, whose team lost their home opener in two sets to Richmond Hill, said. “The players are more athletic and the girls are enthusiastic.” Soccer Beach Channel continued their unbeaten season as Midfielder Marlon Velasquez scored a second half the goal in a 2-1 victory at Franklin K. Lane last Wednesday. They remain in first place in Queens B 1 division with a 5-0-2 record and 17 points. “It was a good week for us and we’re still in first place,” head coach Dominick Stanco said. Beach Channel got late game heroics as they played three games played in three consecutive days. Against Richmond Hill, the Dolphins were holding on to a narrow 2-1 lead late in the second half. Goalkeeper Michael Adedoyin rushed out of his net and batted away a last second penalty kick. Far Rockaway bounced back from a 7-0 drubbing at John Adams on September 26 to draw Richmond Hill 1-1 last Wednesday. Edy Reyes scored the lone goal for the Seahorses, who are in second place at 3-1-2 with 11 points.
