P.S. 183 Gives Katrina Survivors A Helping Hand

The Russell family, who relocated to Rockaway after Hurricane Katrina destroyed their trailer-home in Mississippi, received a $1,400 check Monday from the teachers, staff, students and parents at P.S. 183. The money was raised during a two-day bake sale at the school. The local Kiwanis Club and its president, Vince Castellano, secured a three-bedroom apartment for the family and the money will be used to pay for utilities.
