Kenneth Ribet is a product of the Rockaway public school system, having attended PS 114, JHS 180 and as a student of Far Rockaway High School, was on the competitive math team. Ribet received his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from Brown University, and his doctorate from Harvard University. He is known internationally for his work on problems in number theory and arithmetic algebraic geometry, and has taught at Princeton University, the University of Paris and the Institut des Hautes Etudies Scientifiques as a Sloan Fellow. In 1997 he was elected to be a member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, and in 2000 was elected to the National Academy of Sciences. Ribet currently teaches at the University of California, Berkeley, and will base his lecture on Fermat’s Last Theorem and Beyond .
