Powered by Therese Boyle’s hat trick, St. Francis De Sales fourth grade girls team #1 got its title defense off to a strong start last Saturday, beating Our Lady of the Snows 8-0.

The defending champions were a tough draw for a Snows squad that was playing its first CYO game. Under intense SFDS pressure led by Casey McDade, a Snows clearing attempt ricocheted into the net giving St. Francis a 1-0 lead.

Marina Cregan made it 2-0 about 10 minutes in, moments after making her SFDS debut. When Therese Boyle blasted a goal kick back past its originator and high into the Snows net three minutes later, SFDS was well on its way to victory.

Snows hung tough in the second half but a late flurry by SFDS forged the final score. Kristie Carey scored from in front and Meghan King converted a corner kick. Snows’ lone chances in each half were thwarted by goalies Shannon De Silvia and Daisy Trusttum. Daisy cleanly stopped a penalty kick in the second half.
