RAA Sets ArtSplash 2005 Opening

“The Buddhist Monks,” Print by Kenneth Axen.
This Sunday, September 25, the Rockaway Artists Alliance hosts an opening reception of dazzling artwork and exhilarating performances to welcome ARTSPLASH 2005, a grand multimedia exhibition of 121 works by forty-seven unique artists from across the city and across the country. Weaving together their best work in sculpture, photography, digital imaging, painting, watercolor, collage, construction, video, poetry and literature they create one eye opening show that rivals the fall in color and imagination.

“It’s very exciting to be a part of this really big exhibition,” said one artist. “The work is so striking, beautiful or thought provoking, it just pulls you in. And the performing talent at the opening is just phenomenal. Personally I can’t wait!”

The opening celebration will feature music, dance, spoken word performances, and a few surprises, on the outdoor stage of the Rockaway Center for the Arts (RoCA) galleries at Fort Tilden, Queens. Refreshments will be served and many of the artists will be on hand.

ARTSPLASH 2005, a juried exhibition, runs through Sunday October 16. Other events and performances will be scheduled through the run of the show. The Rockaway Artists Alliance invites all to come and have a personal experience with the arts.

ARTSPLASH 2005 is running in conjunction with the creative construction of The MONOTAURS MAZE, the setting for the Rockaway Artists Alliance’s upcoming howling, haunting Halloween weekend long event where frightening imaginations will run wild and artistically unearthly things will go bump in the night.

Gallery hours are Saturday 12-4p.m., Sunday 1-4 p.m. and by appointment. For information call (718) 474-0861, e-mail rockart116@aol.org or visit www.rockawayartistsalliance.org. ARTSPLASH 2005 is presented in partnership with The National Park Service/Gateway National Recreation Area.
