Pheffer; ‘El’ Structure To Be Repaired

Assemblywoman Audrey I. Pheffer has announced that as part of the Metropolitan Transit Authority Five-Year Capital Program, negotiated by the State Legislature and the Governor, the supports under the Rockaway Freeway Train Trestle are set to be repaired in the plan.

“Those of us who travel under the train trestle have seen the decaying supports and understand the need for their repair. I am pleased that the Legislature and the Governor’s staff were able to come together in forming the MTA capital plan and I am even more pleased that Rockaway will be the recipient of badly needed repairs,” said Pheffer.

Since the steel of the trestle was repaired under a previous project, only the concrete supports will be rehabbed as part of this plan. Work on the project is set to begin in 2008.

“I am hopeful that these repairs will not only improve the safety of the trestle and its’ surrounding areas, but also serve to enhance the appearance of the area,” said Pheffer.

It is about time they repair the concrete viaduct of the rockaway a-line. Look at the other concrete viaduct in the boro which is the number 7 Flushing line, it was practactly falling down in the late 80's early 90's, and they (MTA) did a great job repairing it. Let hope that by 2008 that the Rockaway structure doesnt continue to decay badly that the MTA has to stop service.
