Tribute Park Flag Raising Honors Victims

Locals and family members gathered on Sunday night at sundown for a touching memorial flag raising at the soon-to-be-completed Tribute Park at the northern end of Beach 116 Street. The ceremony included the raising of the American Flag on the site and the playing of taps for those who died in the terrorist attack on the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001. The ceremony was a low-key one with little publicity and advance notice. The Wave, in fact, was not notified of the ceremony until after its September 9 issue had already gone to press.
