Local NYPD Officers Patrol New Orleans, Environs

A number of local police officers and firefighters are in New Orleans and neighboring parishes fighting crime and putting out fires. One of the locals sent The Wave these photographs. Pictured, a patrol car from the 100 Precinct in Rockaway Beach patrolling Harahan, a town in Jefferson Parish, adjacent to Orleans Parish and New Orleans. More than 200 police officers are in the city and neighboring areas. Harahan has become the command post area for those NYPD officers in Louisiana.
The city was virtually covered with debris and fallen telephone poles.
An NYPD Command Post vehicle sits in New Orleans, ready to support the patrol officers that worked in the city.
A flooded area nearby the Superdome, where thousands of those evacuated from their homes spent three of four difficult days.

As a former Rockaway resident, and a current refugee from New Orleans, I want to thank the people of New York and the Rockaway citizenry for helping us in our need. The pictures do the devestation little justice, things are a lot worse than they appear. I know you all know how it is to deal with tragic loss. Thanks.
