for larger version       ‘Family Fun’ And Exploration At Ft. Tilden The National Park Service announced that Gateway Recreation Area’s Fort Tilden will host “Family Fun at the Beach,” a hands-on nature outing along the Atlantic shoreline at Fort Tilden. Author Sharon Seitz, who wrote “Big Apple Safari for Families: The Other Islands of New York City,” will lead the exploration for seaweed, seashells, and plant and animal life. The program will take place on Saturday, September 18 at Ft. Tilden’s Visitor Contact Station in Building 1, and will begin at 1 p.m. It is recommended that participants bring sunscreen, insect protection, and drinking water. Admission is free.
